Correct, you can mount it with the "sync" option and every filesystem
write will be written straight away (ie no write cache).

However (and this is a pretty big one), this will quite often increase
the number of writes quite a bit, which is not good on flash devices
that have a rubbish maximum write count, which is exactly why this
option is not used in Ubuntu and other distros (indeed it was enabled
for a while, but was later removed, istr)
