Alan,

I've just successfully accessed the listen live bit of that site from a
machine with an almost vanilla install of Ubuntu plus the following two
packages:

sun-java5-jre
sun-java5-plugin

I'm thinking actually apt-getting sun-java5-plugin might resolve the
problem (I'm no java expert - but I'm having to use a nasty java based
CMS at the moment).
