Hello Grant,
Thanks for your post to 'ubuntu-uk', I think it brings up a very valid

Localising and promoting Ubuntu is one of the *many* aims of this mailing
list. Another aim (perhaps an even bigger one) is provide support for local
users with help and queries.
I can appreciate that this core use may be less obvious because the working
language of this mailing list happens to be British English, which is the
same as that of the main generic (ubuntu-users at ...) mailing lists.
One thing that really help with deciding which email you want to read or
reply to and which to ignore is by reading the subject line---and it is
likely that this will provide a good hint as to what the email inside is
probably going to be about
Everyone is free to skip over any messages they don't want; To be able to
do that requires that the Subject: line is set sensible. In this case it
was "ubuntu-uk Digest, Vol 13, Issue 2" with the previous message unsnipped
and the reply top-posted.
Anyone using the 'digest' format; please remember to fix the Subject line!
