[ubuntu-uk] Sound woes - Dapper

My friend had a maybe similar problem.... plugged external speakers into
their laptop which worked fine, but suddenly the onboard no-longer worked.

Figured it was a hardware fault, sent the laptop off and they agreed and
repaired it.
