Hi Alex,

I'm not familiar with the motherboard. Does Linux see the hard disk
controller? You may need to identify the IDE controller and check if
it's supported in the kernel. It may need the kernel module loading
separately at boot time. 

Just as a tester though, disconnect the slave or secondary drive and see
how it behaves with just one drive.
