[ubuntu-uk] Unable to activate eth0

Hi,  Just installed Ubuntu (Warty Warthog) on a
machine alongside Windows ME and Mandrive LE2005.
Although Ubuntu sees the eth0 card correctly and I've
setup IP, subnet mask and gateway correctly (the same
as both the other OS's) I can't get on-line.
When I click the check-box to activate the eth0 interface
I get a little tick for about two seconds which then
disappears.  I know this card works fine as I'm using it
now to type this post (via Mandriva).
I've searched and found other people have had similar but
have yet to find a solution. Can anyone help?
