Hi Michael,
First of all, all the work that you've done has not been in vain. You can
still upload your translations for the latest release and due to message
sharing, they will propagate to all Ubuntu versions in Launchpad. Some
messages will have changed, but I bet the majority of original English
strings will remain the same.
Secondly, the fact that your translations were not imported because Ubuntu
11.10 (Oneiric) is just a guess at this point. So please, let's wait until
Monday until we've got more info and I can check with the Launchpad
developers if this is indeed an issue or a red herring.
To answer your question, the only link you should probably care about is
this one:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/
That will always take you to the latest version of Ubuntu that's been
opened for translations.
While we try to lower the barrier as much as possible for contributions, I
agree that there is always room for improvement. Where the infrastructure
is not sufficient to adapt to workflow for different individuals we use
communication, documentation and we contribute improvements. That's one of
the essential points of Open Source.
A while ago, I recommended you to read the documentation on the wiki. I'd
still suggest to read it to learn the details on how to contribute. Where
to translate Ubuntu is described in the quickstart guide there (the "Start
Translating Ubuntu" link).
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations
Again, constructive feedback is always welcome, be it positive or negative.
Even more if it comes with associated actions, exactly as you already did
with your list of modules, which was a great contribution. However, after
reading your last e-mail, while I can understand some of the frustrations
from a new contributor's point of view, I'd recommend to abide to the
Ubuntu Code of Conduct and keep the tone respectful, especially for those
who have spent many long hours making the translation experience in Ubuntu
better.
We're here to help, so for any question that you have along the road, do
use the list!
Cheers,
David.
