Thanks a lot for the feedback. As discussed on IRC, while all the other
points are valid, I think b) needs a clarification.
The Ubuntu documentation at help.ubuntu.com is the same as the one
provided on the ubuntu-docs package, and if used, the translations would
be exactly the same as the ones already available in Launchpad.
But anyway, just mentioning it for the sake of completeness, I know you
are aware of this now.

Redirection:
[-] The central idea of the redirection spec was to have a link in the
main ubuntu.com site to point to localized resources. Such a link in a
website completely in English is really easy to miss out.
[-] Users not comfortable with English are really lost when landing on
an English page
[-] The project is now stalled
[-] Any changes in the main ubuntu.com site have to go through the IS
team, which is busy enough
[-] Design changes in the main ubuntu.com website would mean redesigning
the redirection
Full help.ubuntu.com localization:
[+] Having a centralized point where all localized documentation is
built at once.
[+] Not all LoCos have got the resources or skills to build the
documentation translations
[+] Not all translation teams have got web resources to publish the
translations at.
[+] The "Help" link on the Ubuntu start page could seamlessly take users
to the localized documentation.
[-] It might require a bit more effort from the docs team to publish
translations (but I'm sure the translations community would be willing
to help)
[-] There will be bits of help.ubuntu.com that will not be translatable
with the current setup
[-] There might be some inconsistency with other Ubuntu resources only
in English. My take is though, that having localized resources beats
some level of inconsistency. As an example, we do already have a
precedent of such inconsistency on the main ubuntu.com site [1]
I do hope that these arguments and the several responses from the
translation community leaders in favour of a localized help.ubuntu.com
can help overcome the stall in the discussion, get the docs team onboard
and let us focus on the solution.
Docs team, what do you say?
