My girlfriend and  I  broke up last month because she does that.  I did
nothing but  try to  care for her and love her, and she  could not open
up and let  me in, even after  knowing each other  for a couple  years
as good  friends prior.

Get  help for  that, do something to stop that. You're holding yourself
back in life by letting fear  rule your actions. You will hurt other
people that WANT to be  there for  you. Please don't :(
