Public bug reported:
I used the menu associated with the indicator icon on the top right (the
one looking like an envelope) to change my status from 'Offline' to
'Available', but when I opened Empathy, it was still in Offline mode.
This used to work in ubuntu 12.04 LTS with its default version of
Empathy, and has stopped working since the upgrade to 14.04 LTS which
uses Empathy 3.8.6
