Empathy has connect automatically on startup.

Empathy launches on startup even if I don't ask.
Empathy connects to the internet on startup only if I ask.

This combination makes my Empathy ready to connect to the internet.

Your solution is good for Empathy and Gwibber.
My similar solution is good for Evolution (Solution #1 at http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/26709/).
