Also experiencing this.

I notice that it begins to happen only when I select the "Conversations"
tab and select a contact in the left pane.

After it expands off the edge of the screen, the titlebar of the window
displays strange white artifacts; horizontal lines of moving static.

If it is relevant, I have a dual-head setup and am using fglrx.
