Now I see that the problem happens when I use space bar to expand groups.
Independently of the "Offline contacts" being checked or not, it shows all contacts, online and offline. Ctrl-h doesn't work to hide them.

It seems also that, in this situation, when empathy updates the buddy
list all groups expand again, even if I close them all manually.
