While the menu is bloated, I'd like to comment on Nautilus: In other
OSes (Mac, Windows) their equivalent of Nautilus (Finder, Explorer) are
not simply userspace applications, or at least are not seen as such by
regular users. I believe the latter point here is true of Nautilus in
Ubuntu as well. The file manager is such an integral part of the OS, and
is not actually named anywhere where it will be encountered by beginning
user (I went quite some time without knowing that the file manager was
in fact just another application called Nautilus).

Also: I commonly remove items from the preferences/system settings menus
based on how often I use them. It is fairly easy to do, and I am not an
advanced user by any means.
