@Jamin, no, the noise is truly unnecessary.  If you don't like it then
don't use it.  If you are a "mee too" then click "this bug affects me
too" you are not forced to use empathy as uninstalling it and using
another IM client is well within the simplicities of Ubuntu.  Thats what
makes it such a great OS.
