This bug report is a bit confusing. Do you still face this? are there
any specific steps to reproduce this issue? Can you please try to
install the development release of empathy from this ppa
https://launchpad.net/~telepathy/+archive/ppa and check how it turns
out. This will be really helpful. Thanks in advance
