Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Since a few days ago, I now see my own account in Empathy's contact
list. I can even chat to myself! (Voice calls don't work, though). This
is a bit confusing, and certainly not intended?

It doesn't seem dependent on the configuration. In my "real" config I
see myself as meta-contact merging my jabber, gtalk, and salut accounts,
but this reproduces nicely in a guest session (i. e. no config at all)
with just enabling the salut ("persons near me") account and nothing
else; in that case, I see "guest" in the contacts list.
