It crashed the first time but I can't reproduce it. I tried removing the
account and adding again to no avail: it no longer crashes. But still it
doesn't work, either: it just says "Disconnected - Network error" even
if the skype client is online; but this just looks like an unrelated
issue; I filed bug #556479 for it.

Also, pidgin crashes, too (I reported it as bug #556430 but it's private
as I'm afraid the dump contains my skype passwords) and the crash is
reproducible. But please note that installing pidgin-skype you get two
protocols on pidgin: "Skype" and "Skype (D-Bus)" (given the names I
suspect "bigbrownchunx-skype-dbus" is the latter, I filed bug #556471
for this issue), and while the latter crashes the former works.
