- the icons empathy users for its status and in the panel differ from pidgin and the FUSA.
- * the 'away' icon is a red triangle in emapthy  : pidign and FUSA use a clock
- * the busy icon is yellow with a note in the lower corner : pidgin and FUSA use a red with a bar through the middle
- * the hidden and offline icons are the same in empathy : in pidgin and FUSA hidden and offline use separate icons.
