I can confirm that empathy sound notification are broken till now.

I have tried with freedesktop theme and copying files to feed necessary
names, but in some expected situations I have no sound.

This is theme I use, and files (relevant to empathy chat) I have:

bringout at nbringout-2:/usr/share/sounds/freedesktop/stereo$ ls message*
message-new-email.ogg  message-new-instant.ogg  message-sent-instant.ogg

My empathy settings:
* Enable sound notifications - on
* Disable sound notifications when I am away or busy  - off
* All events later - on 

When I type message I have sound.

But when I receive sometimes yes, sometimes not ?!

When I get sound, I receive also visual "cloud" notification in the
upper right corner ...

I ti really messed up :(
