cI use ubuntu 9.10 with the latest update on an laptop acer aspire 5735z.
When I login tomboy will start automatically. Because I have select the
option "automatically remember running applications when Loggin out" in
System> preferences> startup applications. Now I will that empathy start
also automatically. So I go to the same options tab in startup applications
and push the button that say "remember currently running application" (I
have first start empathy of-course ). Now you can see that empathy and
tomboy are disappear from the system-bar. When you try to restart tomboy it
will not startup again and empathy will restart correctly. If I look to the
System monitor in system>administration it is still there (status: zomby).
If you restart the system then you see tomboy again, but not empathy.
I hope you have now useful information.
