I still have this error, (it's not invalid i guess). I use Kubuntu and I
think that empathy is too attached to the gnome keyring, that's why
anytime i try to save the password, empathy never changes it and I think
he uses "keyring" as a default password, that's why gtalk server always
tells me "Bad autentication".

Is there a way that empathy ask for the default keyring of the system, in this case, kde's keyring?
