[Bug 411935] [NEW] Empathy preserves configuration information upon apt-get purge

Public bug reported:

running sudo apt-get purge empathy && sudo apt-get install empathy

SHOULD remove all configuration settings associated with empathy, remove the package, download the newest version (if there is one), and reinstall from the archive. Effectively making the program the same as it was when it was first installed.

That is not the case. Even manually going into my local folder and removing all folders that I could find associated with empathy failed to do this.

The manpage for apt-get says

           purge
purge is identical to remove except that packages are removed and purged (any configuration files are deleted too).

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
