(Selva) Selvakumar was born in Karur, </span><a style="font-family:"Times New Roman";font-size:medium" href="http://www.cs.utk.edu/~siddhart/tamilnadu/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Tamil Nadu</a><span style="font-size:medium;font-family:"Times New Roman"">, </span><a style="font-family:"Times New Roman";font-size:medium" href="http://metro.turnpike.net/S/spaoli/index.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">India</a><span style="font-size:medium;font-family:"Times New Roman"">, . He received the B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from </span><a style="font-family:"Times New Roman";font-size:medium" href="http://www.annauniv.edu/ceg/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">College of Engineering, Guindy, Madras</a><span style="font-size:medium;font-family:"Times New Roman"">, in 1972, and the M.Tech and Ph.D degrees in Electrical Engineering from the </span><a style="font-family:"Times New Roman";font-size:medium" href="http://www.iitm.ac.in/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay and Madras)</a><span style="font-size:16px;font-family:"Times New Roman"">, in 1974 and 1985, respectively. His Ph.D. dissertation was based on a new analytical approach to solve semiconductor device equations in heavily and non-uniformly doped regions. His interests are in analytical modeling and generic approaches.</span><br style="font-size:medium;font-family:"Times New Roman"">
<div style="font-size:16px;font-family:"Times New Roman"">From 1975 to 1978, he was a Research Scholar at I.I.T. Madras and was partly responsible for setting up the Microelectronics Device Laboratory. From 1978 to 1984, he was a Project Associate at I.I.T Madras, where he was responsible for the development of ultrasensitive photo p-i-n diodes for uv, visible and IR radiation, as well as lifetime control using Platinum for high speed switching devices. Since 1985 he has been with University of Waterloo, first as a Postdoctoral Fellow and later as Professor, in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. For ten years (1996-2005) he was the Director of <a href="http://watmat.uwaterloo.ca/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Waterloo Centre for Materials Technology (WATMAT)</a> which had 38 Faculty members as its members. Professor Selvakumar was a Visiting Fellow at <a href="http://www.princeton.edu/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Princeton University </a>(2003) and a Visiting Faculty Member of <a href="http://www.stanford.edu/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Stanford University's</a> Department of Electrical Engineering in 1992. He received Marsland Fellowship Award in Information Technology in 2003. He was a member of the Board of Governors of the University of Waterloo and a member of the University of Waterloo Senate for three years (2006-2009). His current research interests are in semiconductor devices and its technology. His interests had spanned bipolar transistors, SiGe channel MOSFET's, solar cells, photodetectors, novel group IV binary and ternary alloy devices and quantum effect devices. Recently his interests are in percolation modeling of gate insulator breakdowns and high-K dielectricss. He served as Technical Program Committee Chairperson of the 1994 IEEE Bipolar/BiCMOS Circuits and Technology Meeting. He had been the
Chairman of the Kitchener-Waterloo IEEE Section Electron Devices, Circuits and Systems Chapter. He is cited in American Men and Women of Science 1992 edition.<br>
