The Indian Patent Office has brought out a Manual that tells people
that software in combination with hardware can be patented. This is
patently false (no pun intended). The Indian Parliament had rejected
in 2005 an attempt to introduce software patents and out efforts had
ensured that the clause that permitted software in combination with
hardware was also rejected. As everyone knows, SOFTWARE IS OF USE ONLY
ALONG WITH HARDWARE. We are again facing a similar threat, though this
time from the bureaucracy.

A stake-holders' meeting is scheduled at Chennai for 28th morning.
Interested organisations should attend and present their points of
view. FSF India had participated in the meeting in Mumbai. A similar
meeting in Bangalore seems to have been cancelled. There will be a
meeting in Kolkata after the Chennai meeting.
