etoys is a squeak VM, http://www.squeakland.org/

So, if I open squeak I have a menu with all my VM, etoys included.

And etoys runs much faster (at acceptable speed) when is launched from
squeak.

Perhaps the problem is the same as described at:

http://tracker.squeakland.org/browse/SQ-400

I have a desktop 64 bit machine with 12.04 too and it not happens. But
it is a fast machine, another hardware...

Bug description:
  etoys is very slow in Toshiba nb200, nb250 and nb500 notebooks.

  However, if I open etoys from squeak it runs fine.
