[Bug 653734] [NEW] running "Software updates" from "My Settings" breaks Flipsticks

Public bug reported:

After running "Software updates" from "My Settings", the Flipsticks
activity would not load.  This may effect other packages activities as
well, but I only confirmed it so far with Flipsticks.
