Hi David, we don't have many (if any) people working on Sugar on
Ubuntu, which means that any issues you find in older Ubuntu releases
are likely not going to be addressed.
What I think would be useful now is to test the updated Sugar packages
that are coming from Debian into Karmic and give them some testing and
enter bugs for what is not working yet. The bugs will be noticed by
the Debian packager and hopefully addressed there before reaching
Ubuntu again.
I guess this isn't the answer you expected but hope it helps in some way.
