The problem is most likely that you ran sugar and not sugar-emulator
from the menu. Please try the Sugar Emulator menu option (which could be
under Applications/Other).

The "Sugar" option should be removed from debian/sugar.menu as it causes
confusion. If you confirm that Sugar Emulator works, I'll fix that.
