Sugared Wine

Hello everyone, I'd like to start a discussion about Wine on Sugar.

http://wiki.winehq.org/SugaredWine

The idea is fairly simple - we add a pseudo-windows desktop frontend to
Wine, and get it running in Sugar. If the applications work, then
there's no reason to put Windows XP on an XO, we can keep the OLPC
project using free software, millions more children will be able to get
laptops, the next generation will grow up with Ubuntu, and we'll achieve
global domination.

Either way, it's the right thing to do. The big if is whether or not
the applications will work. If case you haven't been following Wine
development for the past year or so, however, the answer is increasingly
"actually, they probably will."

Wine 1.2 might be on track for Jaunty, and if not Jaunty + 1. I'll do
my best to make sure Wine in Jaunty is good in any event, including
whatever sugar-related patches we might need to differ from upstream.

Regardless, I'd like to at least start a discussion. At the moment I
suspect virtually no one in the sugar community is even aware of this
little Wine subproject.

Thanks,
Scott Ritchie
