Hi Andrew,
Mucking about with kernel modules is not something I know much about,
and you could be right. I do see some activity on the web delving in to
this area, but it is difficult to know what OS, kernel & and version of
the card they are talking about. It does not look good that it does not
show up in /proc.
Can you run $ aplay -l and $ arecord -l to see what ALSA reports, just
in case.
You might need to get advice from forums wider than Ubuntu Studio e.g.
Linux Audio & ALSA projects, unless someone else reads this and is able
to give further advice.
