This would be perfect for a bug report. Open a terminal and type
"ubuntu-bug firefox" and follow the instructions. Explain what happened
and the workaround you used. For all we know, there may have been a
packaging error.

16.04 is about 3 months away from end-of-life, so you might consider
your upgrade options. While 18.04 isn't an LTS for Ubuntu Studio, it
can still be used as such since the security updates are still going to
happen until at least 2023. Per Mark Shuttleworth's announcement, there
may even be updates through 2028, but we have yet to see what that will
look like.
