[ubuntu-studio-users] welcome to emergency mode - problem

When trying to boot into Ubuntu Studio 16.04 today, I get the following
error:

Welcome to emergency mode! After logging in, type "journalctl -xb" to view
system logs, "systemctl reboot" to reboot, "systemctl default" or ^D to
try again to boot into default mode.
Press Enter for maintenance
(or press Control-D to continue):

Nothing seems to work, it just keeps going back to that message. I can
reboot and get the same again.

What could be wrong? It was working last night, but today I get this. I
can boot into Linux Mint on the same PC okay (as I have done now to
write this email).

Would reinstalling Ubuntu Studio over the top of the existing
installation work, or is there something less drastic that can be done?
