If the original poster shouldn't know how to chose the correct device by
qjackctl's settings, then we need to know the output of

  qjackctl -v

since we need to know, if the settings GUI is the old or the new one.
resp. since it's a default install of what ever version of Ubuntu
Studio, it most likely is the old GUI.

I don't have the old GUI available, but I suspect that there are

"Interface"
"Output device"
"Input device"

available by Qjackctl's old GUI's "Setup...".

If so, than nothing should be messed up, assumed the original poster
would select the same device for "Interface", "Output device" and "Input
device". However, just one of the two devices could work in "duplex"
mode.
