No, the OP better considers to use methods that are described by "quasi
official" manuals. IOW one way is to add the -d option to do-release-
upgrade:

  sudo do-release-upgrade -d

Maybe sudo isn't needed and the script asks for the password, however,
it shouldn't harm to run sudo ;).

Anyway, there is a reason that by default the upgrade is offered for the
first dot release, so the OP should consider to wait for the dot
release. Reading the explanations provided by manuals and howtos is
strongly recommended and it doesn't harm to backup the complete nstall
first, not only the user data.
