[ubuntu-studio-users] Kernel updates not giving me a GUI

I am using the open source driver for graphics, at least according to
the settings manager.
I did try using the fglrx briefly for something, but it stopped other
things working, so I went back to the open source driver. From the log
file, does it show proprietary drivers installed? I would rather remove
them if I can.
