not sure how we got off list, but lets get back to the list so you can get
a more broad selection of help..

i use gparted from any live linux cd to manage my partitions.. deleting,
resizing, creating... whatever

you would want to have all your data backed up on the *entire* drive before
making large partition changes like this. there are similar tools in
windows you can use to manage windows partitions, but gparted will manage
windows partitions and linux partitions (as well as many other types)..
