Jagged Text Issue Solved

A while back (I think it was around October/November 2012) I posted that
text in Ubuntu Studio 12.04 didn't look very good; text was "jagged"
even with anti-aliasing on. I didn't understand why there was a problem
since text looked fine in Xubuntu 12.04 on the same machine and Ubuntu
Studio seemed to be built on Xubuntu.
I've now discovered a solution. In the Settings Editor, the value of
xsettings/Xft/Lcdfilter is different between Xubuntu and Ubuntu Studio
(12.04). In Xubuntu, it's set to "lcddefault". In Ubuntu Studio, it was
set to "lcdnone". I changed the setting in Ubuntu Studio to "lcddefault"
and feel that text looks better now (the change takes effect after
logging out and back in).
Other possible values are "lcdlight" and "lcdlegacy" but I didn't try
any of those.
I don't know if this information is still applicable to later versions
but I hope it helps someone.
