Apologize, another PS:
IIRC ARandR does provide ratios of screen formats. For a CRTs e.g.
"Letterbox" 4:3 might also have impact to your issue.
Did you try different resolutions? ... Setings Manager > Display?
Some resolutions are nearly equal, I e.g. use 1152x864, which is nearly
the same as 1024x768. I suspect it doesn't have impact to the font
issue, but you never know.
