Recording with Alesis IO/2, what about the "noise"?

Mine too was on the hardware monitor.  Yes, I am quite sure it is a setup
issue.  I returned my first unit thinking it was a hardware problem.  The
second one did the same thing.  So I started working on the setup.  One
thing I believe helped was the sample rate in JACK defaults to 44100Hz.  The
Alesis samples at 48000Hz. I am on a new installation of Natty right now but
here is JACK setup that works for me:

/usr/bin/jackd -dalsa -r48000 -p256 -n2 -D -Chw:1,0 -Phw:1,0
