If so, your Linux install need some fixes ;).
The http://a1.images6.thomann.de/pics/thumb/185425-80.jpg ,
unfortunately not part of Thomann's product range anymore, just needs
the driver: "snd-usb-audio" It's a plug'n'play device and runs on any
default Linux install I ever used.

Perhaps the web and this list is able to help you regarding to the
quality of a discrete circuit pre-amp ;) if you should be fine with an
audio device that has got no mic inputs.
