Also please keep in mind that we are in a transitional period with Unity and
attention needs to directed at a few matters.

Currently (as is in vanilla Ubuntu) the default xsession will be "Ubuntu
Desktop Edition", which means that Unity will be used. A patch has been
created to fix this problem and is being looked at and will uploaded soon to
the repositories to default to the gnome-classic xsession.

However, for ISO testing these are your initial considerations:
 * when logging in make sure you pick your login name
 * change the session at the bottom of the screen from "Ubuntu Desktop
Edition" to "Ubuntu Classic Desktop"
 * rock on

I say "initial" considerations because after choosing "Ubuntu Classic
Desktop", which will use gnome, it will remain as your xsession choice until
you choose to change it again.

For those interested in how this will be resolved with the patch, it simply
makes "Ubuntu Classic Desktop", i.e. gnome, the default xsession for all new
users with a custom.conf. And since this will be set before a user is setup
during installation, the original user account will be "new" and therefore
use the gnome xsession by default.

I want to thank everyone who invests their valuable time in ISO testing.
