Are there any errors when you run "dmesg" in a console/terminal right
after trying to mount it?

Uncheck the CD/DVD options from the "Ubuntu Software Centre".  Click on
"Edit" then "Software Sources".

Alternatively comment out the CD lines in /etc/apt/sources.list
