the mouse works. if the mouse works, then you know that you have broken
something in the software somewhere. in that case, i would try booting into
an older kernel. i would look at what updates have come in, and also, i
would run lspci in a terminal, and see if the OS is 'seeing' the mouse
(lspci or lsusb for USB devices). if i had an external USB mouse, i would
probably plug that in as well to test. you can also 'cast a wider net' as
far as looking for support. google "ubuntu acer model#" instead of
"ubuntustudio acer model#". if you want to shutdown without using the
powerbutton, you can go to control+alt+F2, login, and use the command 'sudo
shutdown -h now' (without the quotes). feel free to let us know the exact
model of the unit, and maybe paste the output of lspci here, and also, what
F5 does on that unit in particular (or what it is supposed to do).
