I'd say it depends on you.
If you've skipped Intrepid and Jaunty already, you may want to wait a couple of months more for the next long-term support release, which will be Lucid.
In addition, if you're used to running without pulseaudio, you will find some changes and possibly some problems with that. Pulseaudio is mandatory in Karmic.
OTOH if you already use pulseaudio, you should upgrade. And, Karmic has a better, speedier kernel, support for many more sound cards, and updates to programs.
Upgrades can break. You may have to do a clean install. Backup backup backup.
I'm always playing with the current system -- I'm installing Lucid next week, pre-alpha and before the release of the first installation disk -- so I'm not a good person to ask.
Upgrade, certainly. Hardy's way behind the curve at this point. But you decide whether to go with Karmic or wait for Lucid and long-term-support.
