Getting M-Audio Delta 66 working

No - alsa it is.

I have to ask one more time  - did you those steps from that old howto?

1. cat /proc/asound/cards
2. alsamixer -D hw:X
3. aplay *.wav

If there is no noise after these steps, then I have no more ideas.
