Recommendation for Soundcard

Hello,

I thought it might be a good idea to ask here which soundcard I should buy before just getting any. So here are the things I want to do with my Ubuntu-Studio 8.04 on my AMD 64:

I need a soundcard where I can plug my bass guitar in - directly or via a effect device. I will then record my bass tracks to the rest of the band (I will get the rest as mp3 or wav). Optionally, what would be good, is that I could use MIDI with my effect device, so I need a piece of hardware that possibly supports MIDI.

Ah, an btw: I live in germany (this could be important, I think).

Can anybody please give me an advice what to buy? Thanks a lot.
