Installing jack.

Hi again!
How do I install jack from the beginning? I'm at a friend's computer, he's
on standard ubuntu 9.04. I search in synaptic, nothing. I tried to download
the package and it seemed to install right but nothing shows up anywhere...
and I don't see a lot of info on it. Do you have to be a "studio"-user like
myself to get it to work, or can you add something to synaptic?
