getting jack to work on Pentium D with Dell Dimension 9150

Does anyone know how to determine if there is conflicting irq's on a
machine..

I've been trying to get jack to run on my Pentium-D (Dell Dimension 9150),
but I tend to get multiple Xruns like hundreds within the first execution.
Yes, I've got Ubuntu Studio 9.04 (not from ISO, but with this line

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install ubuntustudio-desktop
ubuntustudio-audio ubuntustudio-audio-plugins ubuntustudio-graphics
ubuntustudio-video linux-rt

)

I've also tried various settings of these: /etc/security/limits.conf
@audio          -   rtprio          95
@audio        -     memlock      unlimited
@audio        -     nice        -19

Also is it really that bad to remove pulseaudio and replace with esound?

I'd like to get this down, as I make videos demonstrating this on youtube at
my account

Also I am interested in composing some music and want to do layered modular
synthesized experiments with jack.
