no sound with latest daily build

I installed Ubuntu Studio with a very recent daily build, less than a week old. 
Since then I have not gotten onboard sound to work. I have installed daily builds before, probably over a dozen times, and this has never been a problem for me before.

Sound works fine through the USB port.

susan at ubuntu:~$ sudo modprobe snd-
FATAL: Module snd_ not found.

I tried adding to /etc/modules the following, but nothing happened:

snd-hda-intel

Does anyone have any ideas?
